FRIENDSHIP

March 20, 2017

The selfie above was taken on a recent trip to Taiwan for the World Junior Figure Skating Championships.  This guy was having a blast on his phone and John and I couldn’t help but jump in on the action and document the moment.

Friendship to me is best embodied by the person that never screens a call.  Sure, a microcosm of a bigger narrative but ultimately they are always willing to value your time over their own.  To have a friend, we need to be a friend.  Friendship can sustain and exist purely when it’s convenient, but a deep, meaningful relationship is one where patience is tested and it still endures.

Have you ever found yourself talking to a friend and, out of nowhere, you’re swept with emotion?  To the point of tears?  Not because you’re sad, but because you’re so sincerely grateful they have a chapter in your story.  I have about six of these; I’m not sure if that’s good enough.

If life is “all about balance,” how is it possible to maintain any more than six?  Outside of the deeply meaningful relationships, we also need to preserve the "less meaningful" relationships (Facebook/Twitter/etc), as well as romantic, familial and personal ones.  Seems daunting!

Just do it.

Don’t wish it were easier, wish you better.  If it truly matters, make time.  Answer their call and give your loved one your full attention.  They deserve it.

On a quest to be a positive force in the world, I’m grateful for my friends who encourage and inspire me.  There is nothing more rewarding than being around someone you love who lights up a room, encouraging you to radiate even louder.
